FIRST MAN is my latest watched movie. It’s about NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the years 1961-1969.
Here we’re gonna cover 3 main characteristics.
- The acting: Ryan Gosling (Neil Armstrong) is know to be as a good actor, however, his performance was average comparing to his previous movies. The whole movie was neutral trying to represent the character as holding his emotions in. Though he did a really good job in acting some scenes. But let us not forget Claire Foy (Janet Armstrong) and her remarkable performance, as she excelled in representing the strong and supportive woman.
- The shots and style of editing: Usually the actors take all the credits for the success of a movie, but most people forget that there’s hundreds if not thousands of people working so hard to make this project prosperous. In this movie, most of the credits goes to the cameramen and the editors. The shots were very creative and very expressive yet so hard to be taken, the lighting played a major role and not to forget the cuts or the style of editing that delivered the true meaning of the movie.
- The sound editing: Last but not least, I’m gonna talk about the sound mixing and sound effects. The choice of music is outstanding, the music effects are so detailed and in place, the audio embodies the true situation of the character they were going through, whether launching a space ship or moving into space. Nevertheless the moment of silence when entering the void is astonishing and lifted to the movie to another level. The sound editors did a pretty good job as well, and grabbed the attention of the audience also.
Watching a biography sometimes could be boring, but I’ll tell you what, even if you know the story of the first man landed on the moon, the movie can still surprise you and take your breath away.
I would give this movie a 4.5/5 considering all its components.
